[1]. Uwajima is located in the southwest of Ehime prefecture and surrounded by the beautiful Uwa-Sea and steep mountains. In the Tokugawa period it developed much as a castle town ruled by Date (Date had 100,000 goku allowance from Shogun.) In the Meiji Restoration it helped modern Japan to play an active part, and is beautiful, full of the history and culture.

In conformity with "Nanyo Life-Land" conception and the third long-range-composite-plan of Uwajima city, our city, Uwajima promotes infrastructure preparation for high speed traffic system and public sewerage. The main point is that the redevelopment area project around JR Uwajima station aims at accumulating market and business area and forming a space which has urban prosperity. "Shin-Naiko" reclamation area develop project is promoted for transport zone. Exchange glorious history and culture zone develop project mainly around Uwajima Castle and Tenshaen Garden is promoted. Development of marine recreation project is actively planned.

Big bulls gore violently each other. Its scene is very magnificent and powerful. This bullfighting, Togyu, has some hundreds years' tradition, and is a highlight of sightseeing. There is a municipal bullfighting ring where a periodic tournament is held four times a year.
